Getting started

  1. Install Mint Back in Stock from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short setup checklist.
  2. Show the button: click Turn on app embed on the app home, make sure Back in stock (auto) is on under App embeds, and click Save. It adds the button under the add-to-cart button on product pages. If you prefer to choose the exact spot, click Add block to product page instead and place the Back in stock button block (when the block is on the page, the embed steps aside).
  3. Check the email: on the Emails page, adjust the text and click Send test email — it goes to your store's email address.
  4. Optional: on the Settings page, change the button text and colour, limit how many shoppers are emailed per unit in stock, or add the email marketing checkbox.

How alerts work

  • The button appears only when the selected variant is sold out, and follows the shopper's variant changes.
  • When inventory changes in Shopify, Mint Back in Stock checks the variant again. It counts as back when the product is active, published on your online store, and has stock that can be sold online (or isn't limited: inventory not tracked, or "continue selling when out of stock" on). Stock at locations that don't fulfil online orders doesn't count. While people are waiting, stock is also re-checked regularly (about every 6 hours).
  • Shoppers are emailed oldest request first. With a per-unit limit, each restock emails up to that many shoppers per unit; the rest stay on the list. Each shopper gets one email per request, then the request is deleted.
  • The email's button adds the item to the cart (or opens the product page, if you choose that on the Settings page). Clicks are counted, and an order is counted when it contains the product and came from that link, or from the same shopper within 7 days of their click.
  • Requests that never get an alert are deleted after 180 days.

Common questions

The button doesn't appear. Check that the app embed (or the block) is on in your live theme and that the variant you're looking at is really sold out online. On themes with a very custom product form, use the block.

Alerts didn't go out after I restocked. Open the variant on the Demand page and click Check stock and send now: it tells you what Shopify reports (for example, stock only at a location that doesn't sell online) and whether alerts are held back. On Free, alerts pause when the 50 monthly alerts are used and resume automatically next month.

The app says email sending isn't available. Requests are kept and sent automatically as soon as sending works; there is nothing you need to do. If it lasts more than a day, contact us.

I changed the app proxy URL. The storefront form sends to /apps/mint-back-in-stock. If you changed that path under Apps → Mint Back in Stock → App proxy, change it back.

Billing

Free includes 50 alert emails per month with unlimited requests collected. Pro is billed through Shopify at $4.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited alert emails, price-drop alerts, your logo and button colour in emails, and CSV export. Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling.

Privacy

See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: we store a shopper's email (encrypted) only until their alert is sent, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
